This will look at the ten sins declared in the Ten Words that Yahweh gave to Moses on the mountain.
God{After "God," the Hebrew has the two letters "Aleph Tav" (the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet), not as a word, but as a grammatical marker.} spoke all these words, saying, (Exodus 20:1)
But we know that the law is good, if a man uses it lawfully, (1 Timothy 1:8)
The Ten Words (commonly called the Ten Commandments) were the core of the Covenant of Yahweh with Israel. In them, the children of Israel found the desire of their God, and what was required of them to be blessed and looked after by the Lord Yahweh.
Even today, we have the concept of "contracts" where a person writes up an agreement for another person to follow—they usually begin with an introduction of who is writing the contract, why and upon what authority they are writing it, and lastly, what is actually required. So it was with Yahweh and the People of Israel under Moses.
The Ten Words begin with a short sentence, which defines Whom it is Who is giving them to the children of Israel, and for what He reason He is able to require the following from them.
"I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. (Exodus 20:2)
26He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28'For in him we live, and move, and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his offspring.' (Acts 17:26-28)
