The Blood of Christ
Our spiritual authority, in which we do battle with evil spirits, comes from our identity in God's Son.
We have our entrance into Christ because His Blood has purchased us from the enemy, unto Yahweh.
18knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, 19but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ; 20who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake, 1 Peter 1:18-20
13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off are made near in the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13
19For all the fullness was pleased to dwell in him; 20and through him to reconcile all things to himself, by him, whether things on the earth, or things in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of his cross. Colossians 1:19,20
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
Going back to the days of the Levitical priest order, we see this type ordained with the Passover sacrifice. The blood was shed to cover the sins of those who broke the Law given to Moses during that Covenant of God.
25He shall kill the lamb of the trespass offering. The priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering and put it on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. 26The priest shall pour some of the oil into the palm of his own left hand; Leviticus 14:25,26
11For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that makes atonement by reason of the life. Leviticus 17:11
As we see, from the very beginning, blood was set to be the method of atonement, and cleansing of sin. Yahweh Himself established this, so it naturally follows that His final cleansing and purging of our sin, to a full atonement, would be done through blood. In this case, the Blood of His Son.
11But Christ having come as a high priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation, 12nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption. 13For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh: 14how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without defect to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:11-14
How does this relate to our victory in these last days?
Knowing that the precious Blood of Christ purchased our salvation, we see how it is so closely tied to spiritual warfare.
We do not come before the spiritual enemies of God on our own merit; for in and of our fleshly selves, we are sin-ridden, dead, and unworthy of any protection from God. Yet, because of the cleansing bought by the Blood of Jesus, we have been made worthy.
Indeed, now we have the right to stand tall and confident in the face of Satan and his demons. Why? Because we are now without sin in the eyes of Father Yahweh, and no longer deserve death. Now we have become the redeemed children of the Father, the Bride of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and partakers of Their Holy Spirit, which accomplishes all Their Will.
8But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God’s wrath through him. 10For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life. Romans 5:8-10
Indeed, the Blood of Jesus the Christ speaks of great things. Unlike the blood of Abel, poured out by Cain, the Christ's Blood does not cry for vengence, but for mercy! His Blood calls for the mercy of, not only those who accept it, but even for the ones who shed it 2000 years ago! What grace!
22But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels, 23to the festal gathering and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel. Hebrews 12:22-24
49Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute, 50that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; 51from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation. Luke 11:49-51
28They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him. Matthew 27:28
28Take heed, therefore, to yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of the Lord and God which he purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:28
8All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been killed. Revelation 13:8
Defense against Satan
The word "Satan" literally means adversary; additionally it means legal adversary in Greek, or a prosecutor.
Knowing this, one can see how the Blood of the Son of God is so important to our success in spiritual life. It is our defense to all of the Enemy's accusations!
No matter what he says, our defense and pleading is that the Blood of Jesus has paid the debt of our sin and gained us access into the presence of Yahweh. In His presence there is no lack, especially of protection, so we may boldly stand fast against the threats of the Devil.
Remind Satan and his angels that the Blood of Christ is our Victory.
The Lord's Supper
An obvious correlation to this strong defense of the people of God is that of the presence of Christ's Blood in Lord's Supper.
As the Lord so boldy spoke, "This is My Blood of the New Covenant." The apostle Paul brought this to the remembrance of the Assembly in Corinth when he told them that the cup we bless is a sharing of the Blood of Christ and that to drink the cup unworthily is to be guilty of the Blood of the Lord. He ended with the admonition to examine ourselves, lest we do not discern the Lord's Body (and thus Blood).
It is important, then, in this area of spiritual warfare, to obey the words of the Lord Jesus by remembering Him in the partaking of His Supper. If His Blood is so powerful against the forces of evil, we should then take every opportunity to bring the real presence of His Blood in the cup to rebuke the demons and fallen angels that battle for this world and its peoples' souls.
The Blood of God's Son in the Lord's Supper is an extension of pleading His Blood as the deliverance from evil for all of creation. As Revelation says, the overcomers overcome the Enemy through the Blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. We have been told that whenever we eat the bread and drink the cup of the Lord's Supper, that we proclaim His death until He comes. We proclaim it not only to flesh and blood human begins, but to every spirit watching.
Plead then the Blood of the Young Lamb, chosen from the foundation of the world! In His Blood is the victory over Satan! For we overcome through His Blood, and our testimony that we have been washed clean in It!
5and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us, and washed us from our sins by his blood; 6and he made us to be a Kingdom, priests to his God and Father; to him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. Revelation 1:5,6
14I told him, “My lord, you know.” He said to me, “These are those who came out of the great tribulation. They washed their robes, and made them white in the Lamb’s blood. 15Therefore they are before the throne of God, they serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them. Revelation 7:14,15
10I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, the power, and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ has come; for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night. 11They overcame him because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn’t love their life, even to death. 12Therefore rejoice, heavens, and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil has gone down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time.” Revelation 12:10-12
20Now may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, our Lord Jesus, 21make you complete in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20,21
