Joining of Two Natures

Once he has left his father and mother, Scripture says that the husband "will be joined to his wife."

31“For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh.” Ephesians 5:31

What then is this "joining" (προσκολλαω)? Amazingly, it comes from two Greek words, προς ("toward, facing") and κολλαω ("to glue"). In the Hebrew of (Genesis 2:24), we find the same meaning for the word used there: "to stick together, to cling to, to cleave." In addition, that word is found in the perfect form (ודבק), meaning it is a completed action. When the husband and wife are "joined," it is finished. It is not something that needs to be continued, but once it is done, it remains until the fleshly bond is broken (death).

What a revelation! The joining that is marriage is a gluing toward another. It is a firm fastening of one to another. The fact that the word uses that preposition meaning "toward, facing" also indicates the personal nature of the joining; it's not a mere connecting together of impersonal objects, but implies a coming together while facing each other. It really is a merging of the two to make something new. This is why the Lord Jesus can say the following:

6So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart.” Matthew 19:6

If we even consider the natural act of gluing things together, when they are fastened in such a way, if one tries to pull the two pieces back apart, they will not break at the connecting point—but as they have become as one, they will break in random places, each broken half taking parts of both original halves. As the Hebrew in Genesis shows, it is a completed action—the husband has been joined to his wife until one dies. It will not be able to be a clean split because they truly have become one; which is why God so hates divorce (another study).

2For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband. 3So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man. Romans 7:2-3

39A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if the husband is dead, she is free to be married to whomever she desires, only in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 7:39

So the husband will be joining to his wife. What exactly is joined? His flesh; the nature he has received from his parents to the nature of the woman he now calls his wife. Through that joining there will come a new nature combining the two. The two different fleshes become one and a new flesh is created. This is seen in the natural world through the study of genes, which determine what parts of each spouse will "come out" in the child of the two.

This, mystically, reflects the revelation of the Son of God, Who received the nature of God from His Father by virtue of his continual and eternal begetting from Him (John 1:18), leaving behind that Father in order to join His nature with that of His wife to be, the Assembly (Philippians 2:5-7). He joins the nature of God to the nature of Man, making something new (2 Peter 1:2-4).

2Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is. 1 John 3:2

Whereas the natural type of husband and wife is the joining of flesh, this spiritual truth of the Lord and the believer is the joining of spirit.

16Or don’t you know that he who is joined to a prostitute is one body? For, “The two”, he says, “will become one flesh.” 17But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:16-17

Our very essences are merged into something new; whereas in human marriage, only the flesh or natural man is merged.

Here is the mystery of marriage, that from the joining of two comes one. The two natures are glued together, forming something distinct from the parts, which should never be torn apart.

Discerning Yahweh

God, in His Son, so much loves us that He is willing to give Himself up in order to be one with us.

In a mystical way, He is lost in the union, as what we are combines with what He is, to form something new.

What love is shown by the Lord Jesus in leaving heaven in order to find this union with us!

So by seeing and living out the natural truth of the man and woman being joined until death in mariage, so we see the sacrifice of Christ—He has forever changed His nature by becoming Man and joining with us in faith.

This is Yahweh, the One Who calls us to Himself that we might truly know Him and be one with Him.

The Good Message

As you read this site, you will hopefully come to know Yahweh more fully.

But all of this continuing knowledge is useless unless and until you come into union with Him. I use the word union because it is truly a marriage. It is that deep connection we all seek, for which we most often look in other people. However, the truth is that our hearts will only be fulfilled when we enter that union in fullness with the One Who made us.

This is the grace of God, that He has not stayed distant for us only to worship as Creator. But He has come unto us, even become one of us—in His Son, Christ Jesus—in order to share an intimate union with us. He desires such closeness that it truly will envelope our entire life, transforming us into something new and wonderful.

You may have already entered this union with Him and only seek to know Him better through reading here. But if you have not, as you do read, let this Gospel sink into your heart as you read it now.

God loves you, and has cast your sins into the sea. He has sent His only Son as the Savior of the world—that includes you.

That Son, Jesus Christ, was born as a man through a virgin who had given her life to Yahweh; He lived without sin, reflected the glory of His Father, God, in all His words and deeds, and was persecuted even unto death because of it.

His death upon a cross was the powerful explosion that separated you from your life of death. It remains for you, now, to enter into that death with Him. As you die to the one you are now, a person separated from God from your many sins, you will be born anew, with a nature predisposed to live rightly. This gift is free to you, with nothing you can do to earn it. It is the mercy of God to offer it to you, as He loves you so much! All you must do is receive it by trusting Him to have delivered you. Simply place your life in His hands and embrace the freedom that came through that death on the cross.

The Gospel is that Jesus did not remain dead, but rose again on the third day after His crucifixion! Death could not hold Him, as He was without sin. And so death will not be able to hold you, as you identify with Him fully through your trust in Him. Let go of yourself and confess Him as Lord of your life. The power of His death and resurrection will work in you all that your Creator has destined for you. You will truly enter a new life and experience that intimate union you have been seeking all of your life.

So ponder these words as you read here of this great God—Yahweh—and all that He has revealed to His creation. Let His Spirit testify to your heart that these words are true, that God is Love, and that He sent His Son so that you might receive the life that is unbound by time and space. As you feel that witness in your heart, simply believe and receive what He is offering to you, even now, and begin your new life as a child of God.
